Piastrellature architettoniche islamiche medievali quasicristalline
La visione convenzionale sostiene che i modelli girih (geometrici stella-poligono) nell’architettura islamica medievale sono stati concepiti dai loro progettisti come una rete di linee a zigzag, in cui le linee sono state disegnate direttamente con una scala e una bussola. Mostriamo che nel 1200 C.E. avvenne uno sfondamento concettuale in cui i modelli girih furono ricostituiti come tassellature di un set speciale di poligoni equilateri, le mattonelle _girih decorate con linee. Queste tessere permisero la creazione di modelli di giri periodici sempre più complessi e, entro il XV secolo, l’approccio della tassellazione fu combinato con trasformazioni auto-simili per costruire quasi-perfetti modelli quasi-cristallini di Penrose, cinque secoli prima della loro scoperta in Occidente.
